Derek Hough and Hayley Erbert, longtime Dancing With the Stars contestants, have been wed in a religious ceremony. According to the couple’s confirmation to PEOPLE and Brides, they exchanged vows during a small wedding ceremony in the Redwood Forest that also included an “epic” barn dance party. Julianne Hough, Hough’s sister, and pals Nina Dobrev, Jenna Johnson, Maria Menounos, and Shaun White were among the famous attendees.
Hough’s best man was fellow dancer Mark Ballas, who just announced his retirement from the DWTS competition. The venue in Monterey County, California, was a blend of formal and informal. According to Erbert, “We got married right in front of this mother tree that’s surrounded by all these smaller trees,” as reported by PEOPLE and Brides. “They scatter every seed, and it grows like an army of kids to guard the mother.
Its symbolism was exquisite. We are here to start our family by sowing seeds. It’s among the most beautiful locales, according to Hough. “It’s just like a fairy tale.” To the song “Fall Into Me” by Forest Blakk, the newlyweds performed their first dance. They admitted before the wedding that although guests might be anticipating a big performance from the two skilled dancers, they decided to keep things straightforward.
“If we perform, we go on stage, we dance, we do things,” said Derek Hough. “Not performing feels more special for us. to simply be in the moment while on the floor together and listening to music. The couple originally became acquainted in 2013 when Hayley Erbert was offered a seat on the So You Think You Can Dance tour, but they didn’t start dating until she joined the DWTS dance team.

Hough captioned the photo, writing, “I sat down at the piano, thinking about our relationship and the big step of committing my life to you. It’s pretty amazing how much life we’ve already shared. Only a small portion of what we’ve previously experienced is shown in this movie. Life seems to be going by so quickly, therefore I’m trying to slow down time as much as I can to enjoy every second with you.
I can’t wait to carry on creating wonderful memories and a life with you. I adore you from the bottom of my heart, Erbert wrote in the comments. I appreciate you giving me this life. Following this, Hough and Erbert will perform as dance partners together during their Symphony of Dance national tour, which starts on September 28. The forthcoming season of Dancing With the Stars will see Hough resume his role as a judge.
