Not having a post-credit sequence in Rob Savage’s The Boogeyman is not very shocking. The original novella by Stephen King, the horroɼ maestro is only a dozen pages long, but the movie is an adaptation. Savage was therefore taking a chance by making the plot a full-length film.
The Boogeyman is a terrifying short story by Stephen King, but it isn’t as well known as some of his other works, such as The Shining it or Pet Sematary. For those reasons, Savage decided it would be best to concentrate on the current plot rather than waste time hinting at potential sequels.
Even yet, despite the absence of end-credits scenes, The Boogeyman undoubtedly has franchise potential. This is because Savage offers credible PG-13 scares and the screenplay by Scott Beck, Bryan Woods and Mark Heyman leaves enough clues for a potential sequel.
Does The Boogeyman Have a Post-Credits Scene?
The Boogeyman follows the Harper family as they cope with losing a loved one. In the film, Sophie Thatcher and Vivien Lyra Blair play sisters whose lives are drastically changed when their mother dἰes.
As the girls’ father, Dr. Harper (Chris Messina) refuses to face the trἀuma of losing his wife and as a result fails to provide his daughters with the assistance they require, things only worsen. Lester Billings (David Dastmalchian), a patient of Dr. Harper, also brings a supernatural threat into the family’s home.
The Boogeyman has a lot of possibilities for expanding King’s short story only based on its theme. The Boogeyman also boasts a strong cast that gives compelling performances that raise the movie’s stakes. The Boogeyman’s creature design also brings unforgettable jump scares, delighting horror lovers seeking the next shock.
The Boogeyman is a good horror movie and it shouldn’t take long for it to start making money. Early estimates place its opening weekend box office at $15 million, a respectable showing for a horroɼ film especially considering that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is its main rival.
DiscussingFilm talked about the revenue for the Boogeyman in a tweet:
‘THE BOOGEYMAN’ earns $12.3M in the film’s domestic opening weekend.

If we consider that Disney’s first intention was to dump the adaptation on Hulu, the franchise potential of The Boogeyman is even more appreciated. Everyone is delighted that the film had the opportunity to frighten us in theaters including King, who viewed a draft of The Boogeyman and noted how it required a theatrical distribution. King liked the adaptation so much that the writer said:
“’They’d be fucking stupid to release this on streaming and not in cinemas.'”
Savage can return to direct The Boogeyman 2 because of the character’s nature, perhaps concentrating on a new family and their battle with the shadowy foe. Nevertheless, it would be preferable if The Boogeyman didn’t have a post-credit scene.
Without an end-credits scene, the film already makes room for a sequel which is enough to offer the adaptation the chance to become a franchise.
The Boogeyman is in theaters now. See the official trailer below:
