Former US president Donald Trump has lashed out at the House committee looking into the assault on the US Capitol, but not for labeling him a criminal. Trump lashed out at legislators the day after the congressional panel recommended charges against him for his participation in the Capitol brawl, claiming he knew all along that he lost the 2020 race to President Joe Biden.
“This is a total LIE!” On Tuesday, Trump posted on his Truth Social media site. “I never thought, for even a moment, that the Presidential Election of 2020 was not Rigged & Stolen, and my conviction became even stronger as time went by.”
Claims that Trump is aware of having lost the election have long been a sore point for him. He also insulted his own daughter Ivanka for saying he lost in front of the committee. Trump has ridiculed special counsel Jack Smith as a hostile Democrat who only wants to punish him and has falsely claimed the FBI “illegally changed the results” of the election he lost.
Trump has claimed that the FBI and the government conspired to “RIGGED” the presidential election in 2020. In the immediate aftermath of the committee’s unprecedented referral to the Department of Justice, Trump claimed it would have the opposite effect.
Trump stated on Monday, “What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.” Compared to the enormous uproar in Republican circles following the search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago house in the secret materials case, reactions to the referral have been relatively subdued.
Trump has blasted the House committee investigating the attack on the US Capitol, but not because they have called him a criminal. The day after a congressional panel recommended charges against Trump for his involvement in the altercation in the Capitol, Trump unleashed a tirade against lawmakers, saying he knew he had lost the 2020 election to President Joe Biden all along.
