An innovative new Twitter feature that displays the number of times a tweet has been read was introduced by Elon Musk. The new owner and CEO of the firm announced the addition on Thursday, saying that it will function similarly to the platform’s current method of displaying video views.
“Twitter is rolling out View Count, so you can see how many times a tweet has been seen! This is normal for video,” Musk said. “Shows how much more alive Twitter is than it may seem, as over 90% of Twitter users read, but don’t tweet, reply or like, as those are public actions.”

As you can see from Musk’s tweet (above), the count displays at the bottom, far left of each post across all versions of Twitter on iOS, Android, and the web. While you’ve always been able to access stats associated with your own tweets using the platform’s analytics tool, the view count is now visible to everyone.
According to a new page in Twitter‘s Help Center, “Anyone who sees your tweet counts as a view, regardless of where they see your tweet (e.g., Home, Search, Profiles, tweets embedded in articles, etc.) or whether or not they follow you. A tweet may have a view even if the author reads it.”
It adds: “Multiple views may be counted if you view a tweet more than once, but not all views are unique. For example, you could look at a tweet on web and then on your phone, and that would count as two views.” However, Twitter doesn’t provide view counts for community tweets, tweets shared inside a Twitter Circle, or “older” tweets.
This new feature seems like the least contentious thing to happen to Twitter in a while, especially in light of the chaos that Musk has produced since he purchased the company at the end of October.
It’s too soon to tell whether the firm is finally beginning to calm down, however. Musk has agreed to respect the results of a Twitter vote that suggested he stand aside from his post as CEO, therefore the first order of business is to choose a new CEO. The billionaire businessman has stated his desire for a successor but voiced doubt that anybody would be “foolish enough” to assume such a demanding position.
Elon Musk has created a new Twitter feature that shows how many times a tweet has been viewed. According to the company’s new owner and CEO, it would operate similarly to the present manner of showing video views on the platform, and it was disclosed on Thursday.
