Twitter’s new leader, Elon Musk, has a tendency to make so many proclamations about the service that it can be difficult to follow them all. This week, Musk has fought publicly over whether the discredited FTX founder, Sam Bankman-Fried, owns a portion of Twitter and polled Twitter users on whether he should grant “wide amnesty” to suspended accounts. Musk has been at it again this past Friday, this time suggesting that he may create an alternative smartphone to compete with Apple and Google.
The tech mogul’s remarks came after conservative podcaster and former OANN anchor Liz Wheeler tweeted at him. Wheeler suggested on Friday afternoon that Musk build his own phone if Apple and Google remove Twitter from their app stores. The future of Twitter in the Apple and Google app stores has been a hot topic recently due to Musk’s support of “free speech” (so long as it doesn’t annoy him) and loose content management.
“If Apple & Google boot Twitter from their app stores, @elonmusk should produce his own smartphone. Half the country would happily ditch the biased, snooping iPhone & Android,” Wheeler said on Friday. “The man builds rockets to Mars, a silly little smartphone should be easy, right?”

Musk informed Wheeler three hours later that if Twitter was removed from the Apple and Google app stores, the primary entry points to iOS and Android devices, he would create his own phone. Wheeler initiated a poll on Twitter asking if people would use a “tELONphone,” which may have been an indirect tribute to Musk, who is fond of polling his followers.
As of this writing, 56.2% of the 52,707 votes cast have been voted for “Yes.” “I certainly hope it does not come to that, but, yes, if there is no other choice, I will make an alternative phone,” Musk tweeted.

Apps containing hate speech, discrimination, bullying, harassment, or explicit content are prohibited from being sold by both Apple and Google. After the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, Apple and Google removed the app Parler from their app stores for its involvement in assisting rioters with planning the event. It has been rumored that Kanye West, now known as Ye after a name change, is in negotiations to acquire Parler.
Musk has stated that he plans to create his own smartphone if Apple and Google treat him unfairly, but it is crucial to keep in mind that many of the things he says never come to fruition. Do you remember the Tesla Semi, which is already three years overdue? How about the Cybertruck, which failed its bulletproof test? In fact, he is the sole owner of Twitter since he was unable to negotiate a suitable exit strategy.
It can be challenging to keep up with all of Elon Musk‘s pronouncements about Twitter, as the company’s new CEO. Musk has asked his Twitter followers if he should provide “broad amnesty” to blocked accounts and has openly argued with FTX‘s disgraced founder, Sam Bankman-Fried, about who controls what percentage of the company.
