Officially approved by Paramount+, “Good Burger 2” will reunite original performers, Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell. During Friday’s broadcast of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” the information was made public.
To air on Paramount+ later in 2023, the film on the much-anticipated Nickelodeon sequel will start in May.
Thompson said in a statement
“I can’t believe it’s been a little over 25 years since great customer service was born at Good Burger. Being a part of something so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud and now to be back where it all began working on the sequel is surreal”!
“Love performing with my brother Kel and can’t wait to show the fans what these characters have been up to since we last saw them.”
Mitchell played Ed in the “All That” sketch, which first appeared on the Nickelodeon program. After that, it was separated into the 1997 movie. With an $8 million budget, it turned out to be a box office hit earning slightly about $24 million. As a result, it has gained cult status.
Mitchell and Thompson reunited for a “Good Burger” skit on “The Tonight Show” in 2015 and they later said they would be open to making a new version of the movie. Mitchell additionally played Ed in the 2019 “All That” revival series.
“Ed is one of those timeless characters that has brought so much joy and laughter to fans, and it’s such a beautiful blessing to still be doing it after all these years. It’s super awesome to come back and continue the stories of Dex, Ed and Good Burger for both the people who grew up watching and their kids.”
The writers and executive producers of the sequel are Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert, who also co-wrote “All That” and the first movie. The movie’s writers also include James III. The director is Phil Traill. The producer is Nickelodeon Studios.
Shauna Phelan and Zack Olin, co-heads of Nickelodeon & Awesomeness Live-Action manage the film’s production on behalf of Nickelodeon Studios. Brittany Cope is the executive in charge of production at Nickelodeon.
Tanya Giles, chief programming officer of Paramount Streaming, said:
“We’re thrilled to take audiences’ orders for more laughter and adventures with the ‘Good Burger’ crew. Good Burger 2’ will be a great addition to our 2023 programming slate and is sure to serve up everything ‘All That’ fans and new viewers alike will enjoy.”
Michael Goldman and UTA represent Thompson. Levity Live and UTA represent Mitchell. Phelan and Olin said:
“Good Burger is such a beloved movie that fans have cherished for years. Packed with comedy, cameos and plenty of Easter eggs from the original, ‘Good Burger 2’ will bring the nostalgia fans and a new generation of viewers together for another wild, hilarious ‘Good Burger’ adventure.”
This is the most recent Nickelodeon property to have a Paramount+ revival. The streaming service also offers an upgraded version of “Rugrats,” the “iCarly” revival series which has been given a third season and other things.
