To indicate that a live-action Moana is in the works, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stood on the sandy Hawaiian shoreline. Nevertheless, he held back on mentioning how his grandfather is related to the movie. Moana was one of the biggest hits of the year when it debuted in theaters about seven years ago.
The musical fantasy movie centers on Moana, who searches for the heart of Te Fiti (a pounamu stone) to preserve her island. Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) meets Maui (Dwayne Johnson), a shape-shifting demigod who joins her on the journey during her adventures.
Johnson was the ideal option to announce because he would play the same part in the live-action adaption.

“We are so excited and happy to announce that a live-action reimagining of Moana is in the works.”
Johnson shared a lesser-known personal connection to the movie while he was present to discuss the movie’s logistics, including which fan favorites would be featured. Johnson said (According to Yahoo)
“Many of you may not know the brilliant team at Disney Animation, my partners, we found so much inspiration for Maui in the mana and the presence of my late grandfather, the legendary High Chief, Peter Maivia. You can see how deep this story is for me.”
Who Was Dwayne Johnson’s Grandfather?
Dwayne Johnson’s maternal grandpa was Peter Maivia, also known as Fanene Leifi Pita Maivia. He was born in American Samoa on April 6, 1937.
