Tim Burton, the renowned auteur filmmaker gained notoriety in his early career after helming several short films, a TV movie and his feature directorial debut, Pee Wee Herman’s Great Adventure (1985). Yet, it wasn’t until Beetlejuice (1988), one of the most recognizable horror comedies ever created, was released that Tim Burton truly became a household brand.
Although the main characters of the plot are a recently deceased ghost couple who attempt to frighten a dysfunctional family from their own house, the movie is named for and best known for its villain, Betelgeuse. Despite having very little screen time, Michael Keaton plays the role perfectly.
The Oscar-nominated actor draws inspiration from his early days as a stand-up comedian to give a performance that is both funny and disturbing. Since the film’s 1988 premiere, there have been rumors about a sequel, but the idea never materialized for whatever reason. The possibility of a sequel’s development resuming appeared in the 2010s.
However, it was finally shelved once more in 2019. Although the series has occasionally been revived in non-theatrical formats, including as theme park attractions, an animated series, and a Tony Award–winning Broadway musical, the need for a real sequel has persisted.
Over 30 years later, the protracted Beetlejuice saga appears to have finally found a new afterlife. After years in development hell, Beetlejuice 2 seems to be in the works. According to sources, Tim Burton, Michael Keaton, and Wednesday (2022) star Jenna Ortega are all expected to return to the eerie and fantastical world of his breakout film.
Not only did we get to know the main cast members better, but we also got some early information on how the eagerly awaited production was being filmed. Here is everything we know about Beetlejuice 2 if you want to learn more.
Beetlejuice 2 Release Date
Warner Brothers have not yet provided an official release date or window for the film because it is still in the early stages of development.
However, if the picture does shoot this Summer, we can reasonably guess when it would be looking to release. Since filming may begin in the summer of 2023 and that post-production would probably begin in the fall, a fall 2024 release appears feasible.
It also doesn’t seem entirely out of the question to assume that Warner Bros would want to release Beetlejuice 2 sometimes close to Halloween, given how well-known the Beetlejuice franchise is for its eerie graphics eerie mood.
