Elon Musk denied a story that Twitter only employed 800 people, saying instead that the company now has 2,300 active, working employees. Saturday, he addressed the Twitter account @unusual whales, which had shared a CNBC article stating that just 1,300 workers remained on staff in direct response. “The note is incorrect,”  Musk tweeted, referring to the memo.

“There are ~2300 active, working employees at Twitter,” he wrote. “There are still hundreds of employees working on trust & safety, along with several thousand contractors.”

CNBC reported on Friday that there was 1,300 active personnel at Twitter, including fewer than 550 full-time engineers by title, a significant drop from the more than 7,000 who were on staff when Musk assumed control. The news organization said their numbers came from confidential documents it saw.

According to CNBC, around 130 of Musk’s former SpaceX and Tesla employees have now joined Twitter.  Musk tweeted that “less than 10 people from my other companies are working at Twitter,” suggesting that the true number is far lower.

After he bought the social media firm on October 27, he brought in dozens of personnel from Tesla, SpaceX, and The Boring Company. Insider Reported that Tesla’s engineers visited Twitter’s San Francisco offices the next day to ask questions about their work and the technical details of the platform.

The internet tycoon boasted that he was well on his way to fixing the social media platform. Some Tesla shareholders have expressed displeasure with Musk’s dedication to the firm, with one even urging him to replace himself as CEO. Musk conducted a survey of Twitter users last month to determine if he should resign as Twitter CEO, and more than 57% of respondents said he should.

However, Musk has not revealed who would succeed him as Chief Twit. Requests for a response from Twitter and Musk made outside of business hours went unanswered. Meanwhile, on Friday, Musk testified about his August 2018 statements in a civil lawsuit in San Francisco. In those tweets, he stated he had financing secured to take his vehicle firm private. On Monday, he will most likely resume testifying.
