Wernher von Braun, a rocket scientist, and engineer, wrote a book titled “Mars Project: A Technical Tale.” At first, von Braun worked for the Nazis as a rocket scientist. Early in his career, he participated in Nazi Germany’s rocket development programme. As part of a top-secret intelligence operation codenamed “Paperclip,” the United States enlisted the help of German engineer and scientist Wernher von Braun and around 1,600 of his compatriots after WWII.
Upon arriving in the United States, Von Braun joined an initiative to develop material across media, including books, television guest appearances, and toys, to create narratives that simplified difficult scientific concepts for a general audience. His book’s title suggests it’s intended to be about a trip to Mars.
To be fair, Toby Li was only partially incorrect; in Von Braun’s book, the supreme ruler of Mars is referred to as the “Elon,” but not by that name. Another user, Pranay Pathole, used an English version of the book to describe the distinction as follows:
“Yeah it’s real. This is the English transcript of the same book… But ‘Elon’ referred by Von Braun in the book isn’t the name of the person but rather the name of the position something like an elected meritocratic president.”
